Fire Danger Part 2

In the last blog I talked about the fire hazards that come with being a homeowner like having to keep the area around the house clean and free from dry grass and weeds. Dry dead trees are also very dangerous. Dead trees can break or fall in the winter storms and do serious damage to your house or property.  When it comes to fire even the green healthy trees and brush if they are too close to the house can be very dangerous. The extreme heat of a wildfire can cause the trees to catch on fire and burn up everything around them at the same time that could include your house and any other out buildings on your property.

Whether at home or out camping or fishing it’s so very important to be aware of the fire hazards that are around us. Many people let their guard down when fall rolls around. The weather is starting to cool down a bit but the weather has been hot and dry all summer and the fire danger is the highest it’s been all summer. There hasn’t been any rain to cause the fire danger to go down. Once the rain starts again the fire danger will go down and we will be able to burn again. For me it’s not the same going camping without being able to have a fire. There is the option of having a propane fire pit but for me it’s not the same as a real fire.

There are also hazards when using a propane fire. You still have to use common sense; and clear the area before placing the propane fire pit, or it could be just as dangerous as the regular fire. Clearing a 6’ circle of all burnable material before putting the fire pit in place is very important. Keep the fire pit away from trees and the low hanging branches because they will catch on fire as the heat rises. This holds true, whether for a conventional fire or a propane fire.

If there are areas that have tall dead grass, brush or trees that cause a threat to your property, ask questions. Find out who owns the property. Talk to them and find out how the problem can be rectified. The last thing you need is for someone to throw out a cigarette and cause a fire in your neighborhood. Many times, the owner lives in another location and no one knows who the owner is or how to contact them.

Sometimes you can go down to the courthouse and tell them your concern and they might be able to help find the owner. If the owner lives out of the area, they might not be aware that there is any issue with their property. If you need help with this process talk to our bidding contractor here at Black Sheep Tree Service when they come to make the free bid on the tree work that needs to be done. He might be able to help you find the answers you are looking for.
