Tree Trimming Yakima & Tree Planting Tips

When you get ready to plant a tree, look around. When you look up, are there power lines up above you? If there are, you might want to rethink either the location or make sure the tree at maturity will not have a height of over 25 feet.

The next step is to find out what is underground. Are there any underground power lines, septic lines, waterlines or sprinkler lines? Is the location close to the foundation of the house? Rule of thumb is, there will be as much of the tree below the ground as there will be above the ground. This can vary some depending on the kind of tree it is. If there is any one of these hazards under the ground it’s probably not a good idea to put a tree there. The roots can grow down into the power wires and can not only cause a power outage but can cause an electrical hazard for the people and animals that touch the tree. What a big surprise for your dog when he tries to do his business on that tree!

There is also a hazard for the person digging the hole to plant the tree. You don’t want to end up cutting a power line with your shovel. The number to call to find out this digging information is normally 811. If that doesn’t work, look up “Call before you dig Yakima trees ” and they should be able to come and find this information for you, or guide you to find this information.

If it’s the fat black wire that goes to your house that you are planting under, the tree shouldn’t grow any taller than 10 feet at maturity. Find the height and width of the tree including the branches. Usually, you can find this on the tree tag. If you can’t find that information on the tree tag, your local nursery employees are usually more than happy to find out this information for you. You can also search it out yourself online. Just search for the name of the tree and “dimensions at full growth.” ie: “Oak full growth dimensions.”
